March Favourites

Well this will be a March we'll never forget! How quick things can change in the space of a few days. I hope you've all been well and adjusting to this new way of life and enjoying going with the flow.

I have been offering a few easy stretch yoga videos on my social media for those that need to take a moment to breathe and re-centre: https://www.facebook.com/thesagedspace

Diffusing Essential Oils

Essential oils are said to have a multitude of healing properties from reducing stress to aiding digestion. My current go to blend is Patchouli & Bergamot for a calm but uplifting environment. You can get reasonably priced diffusers from Amazon.

Creativity as Meditation

At the beginning of March I began partaking in activities away from the screen. Things that I could really lose myself in and not think about daily worries and anxieties. I began painting, drawing and doing jigsaw puzzles and was really surprised how hours could go by without thinking of anything. How I felt completely calm and relaxed afterwards. This is something I would definitely recommend and will be continuing moving forward.

Since graduating from university I've missed engaging in regular thought provoking conversations. This podcast is a perfect blend of critical and analytical thinking of everyday life covering every topic imaginable. A great listen to laugh, think and ponder.

Ginger Energy Balls

Now that the majority of our time is spent indoors, I've found it hard not to snack! To help with sweet cravings I made up some ginger energy balls to keep me going and once you make your batch they can last up to 2 weeks in the fridge. They are also great for on the go once everything has settled!

Ingredients (makes approx. 10)

A handful of oats

2 handfuls of dates (pitted)

2-3 tsp ground ginger (depending on how spiced you like it)

Pinch of salt

Method

1. Pour the oats into a food processor and pulse until a rough powder.

2. Add in the dates and pulse for around 5 minutes. You will need to stop the processor at intervals pushing down the mixture with a spoon.

3. You want a thick sticky consistency but with enough hold to form into balls - if its a bit too sticky add a few more oats.

4. Wash your hands.

5. Spoon a small bit of the mixture into the palm of your hand and roll into a ball - place straight into a storage box or onto a plate. Your hands will get sticky so you may want to wash them a few times in-between.

Sukhasana

March has been about finding stillness and contemplating what is going on around us and within us. Sukhasana - easy seat is simply sitting down crossed legged on the ground. The spine is long, the eyes are closed and we breathe. As well as giving ease to the hips and knees it strengthens the spine. As the body becomes still we look within, checking in with the body and mind and understand how this month has impacted us in any way shape or form.
